To hand, in storage is a photographic work by Matthias Sperling, making reference to the performance To hand, created by Sperling and Siobhan Davies.
"Hidden away deep in a gallery basement, this is an image of a choreographic artwork in storage. I made this image to mark the end of my three weeks of performances at Whitechapel Gallery of To hand, a durational solo performance that Siobhan Davies and I created together. This small storage room was my cosy rest area between performances, where I hung out with wrapped-up paintings, photographs and sculptures. I so enjoyed the thought that this is what it might be like to be a collected and archived choreography that I set up a camera with self-timer and then sprinted to plonk myself down, trying to look bored and listless after years in storage, just waiting be reactivated."
